TWO new audiobooks up on Audible!

Exciting news! Not one but TWO audiobooks I worked on over the summer are now live on Audible for your listening pleasure! They were very different experiences as a performer, but I had a great time on both.

The first is Seven Shorts, a short story collection by Julie Rogers. I enjoyed working with Julie on the audiobook for her award-winning novel Falling Stars (now in development as a feature film!) and I was thrilled when she reached out about an audiobook version of a short story collection she was republishing. The titular seven stories cover a wide range of periods, styles, and genres, from historical body horror to cyberpunk sci-fi, so I had my work cut out for me as a narrator, but Julie is a wonderful collaborator, and we’re both very happy with the result.

The second is When the Raven Soars, which was my first venture into co-narration! The twin authors of the book, who write together under the pen-name Shaelyn Rose, were interested in a team of two narrators to cover the male and female POV characters in their debut novel, a YA supernatural detective story inspired by the history, folklore, and mythology of Ireland. As a proud Irish-American with a love for Irish mythology myself, I jumped at the chance!

Strangely, throughout my career as an actor, I have often been put in the position of learning to do an accent or dialect on a project that is being directed by a person who’s actually from that place. While my Irish accent is fine for an American, but learning I would be co-narrating a book set in Ireland with an actual Irishwoman was a bit of an actor’s nightmare! Róisín immediately allayed my fears: we had a great pre-recording chat on Zoom, and she was incredibly helpful throughout the process whenever I ran into difficulties. (Her voice notes with pronunciations of the book’s many Gaeilge terms were absolute life-savers.) I’m lucky to have had such a positive first co-narrating experience.
